All I Want for Christmas

Night the Reindeer Saved Christmas
CHRISTMAS FAMILY TRADITIONS WE LOVE
Courtney
Each December, my son and I wander through the Christmas aisles in search of our newest animal decoration for the tree. It’s our little ritual. Sometimes we find a tiny reindeer, other years a shimmering bird or gentle bear.
As our collection grows, so does the joy of unwrapping each one and remembering the year it was chosen. The tree has slowly become a magical zoo of memories, each ornament holding a story we’ll never forget.

Every Christmas morning, my family and I wear matching pyjamas. It started as a small joke and quickly became one of our favourite traditions.
My friends overseas love to tease me about it, but I think there’s something special about beginning the day all together, relaxed and laughing in our matching sets. This year, we have a new addition to the family, our puppy Chicco and I’m sure he’ll be joining us in his own festive pyjamas.

We have a few special traditions in our house, but my favourite has to be the handmade advent calendar my mum created for my two boys.
She built it from scratch, every drawer, every little detail and fills it each year with tiny trinkets, toys, and treats for the boys to discover each morning.
Some days reveal little surprises, and others hold an activity like, “Today you get to build a gingerbread house with your cousins.” She’ll have all the little ones over, and together they spend the afternoon covered in icing and laughter.
It’s these small, thoughtful moments that stay with you, the kind that shape childhood memories. Watching my boys’ faces light up each morning as they open their advent drawers truly melts my heart.

Growing up in Austria, I remember the Christmas season filled with the smell of fresh baked biscuits. The scent of vanilla and cinnamon filled the air while my mother would bake batches of "Linzer Augen" (Austrian traditional biscuits) for us to give as gifts to our family and friends.
I wanted to continue a similar tradition for my own family here in Australia, without having to use the hot oven too much in the summer heat. Last year, my 4-year old son and I started making chocolate barks for our loved ones. We used dark, milk and white chocolate and we added different varieties of nuts, berries and coconut flakes.
My son loved adding sprinkles of gold on top of each bark. Once wrapped nicely in baking paper, we stored them in our fridge ready to be distributed to our neighbours, friends and family. It's a great activity to get the kids involved! It's easy, fun, economical and does not require an oven. And it is super yummy, too!
