FATHER'S DAY GIFT GUIDE 2026:THOUGHTFUL GIFTS FROM BUB

Father's Day 2026 falls on Sunday, September 6. If you're a mum standing in the kids' section trying to figure out what to get on their behalf (again), you're not alone. Here's our edit of gifts that feel like they came from your little one, not off a generic "top gadgets for dad" list.

Every year I end up doing the same scramble the week before, half heartedly signing a card in my daughter's name and hoping the sentiment carries it. This year I wanted to actually plan something, so I asked a few of the House of Bimbi mums what they're doing differently. A pattern showed up fast: the gifts that land aren't the biggest ones, they're the ones with a kid's fingerprints on them, literally or otherwise.

Why "From Bub" Gifts Feel Different

There's a reason a wonky handprint on a mug outlasts a $200 gadget in dad's memory. It's specific to that one small person, at that one exact age, and it will never be recreated. That's really the brief for all five ideas below: small, specific, and unmistakably from your child rather than from you.

1/ A Keepsake He'll Actually Keep

Skip anything that ends up in a drawer. A soft keepsake toy your little one has genuinely loved and slept with does more than a framed photo. It's proof of a stage of their life dad got to witness firsthand.

2/ Something Cosy for Weekend Mornings

A matching knit for dad and bub for slow Sunday mornings is an easy win. Practical enough that he'll actually wear it, sentimental enough that he'll notice why you picked it.

3/ A Handmade Card and a Gift Card, Together

Let the card carry the sentiment and the gift card carry the practicality. Dad picks something he actually wants, and the handprint or drawing is what he'll keep. It's a combination that works for babies right through to older kids who can draw their own.

4/ A Day Out, Not Just a Thing

Some of the gifts parents rate most highly this year aren't objects at all. Half a day with no errands, a walk somewhere he actually wants to go, breakfast he didn't have to make. If budget or time is tight, this costs neither and tends to be remembered longer than anything wrapped.

5/ New Dad Essentials (For a First Father's Day)

If this is someone's first Father's Day, skip the novelty mugs. A few genuinely useful newborn era essentials, the kind that make the 2am shift slightly less brutal, say "we see how hard this year has been" better than anything else on this list.

A Note for New Dads

Father's Day lands differently in year one. If you're shopping for a partner who's newly a dad, it's worth acknowledging that the day is as much about how much has changed for him as it is about gifts. Our past conversation with the hosts of The Dads And The Docs is worth a read if you want a more honest look at what the first year is actually like from a dad's side.

When Is Father's Day in Australia in 2026?

Father's Day in Australia falls on the first Sunday of September each year. In 2026, that's Sunday, September 6.However you're celebrating this year, the gifts that stick aren't the expensive ones. They're the ones that could only have come from your family, at this exact moment.
